This is directed to everyone. Don't you think that's it's time that this area had MORE Commercial Zoning? We are a growing community here and do you wish to just have this puny little store out here?

Is there going to be any NEW Commercial Zoning on Evans-Biddix Road or elsewhere? Surly I would hope so. Aren't you tired of going 8-12 miles to a ''Real'' store or car wash or what ever? Let's get real here folks, We ARE A COMMUNITY here!

I remember when Marilyn sold PVC pipe, fittings, nuts & bolts and a whole lot more which was a benefit to all who lived here before she sold out to Monroe Oil!!!

In the discussion string entitled ''Smart Area Growth'' I floated a proposal for cirulating the following petition which addresses commercial development in our area. If you support the petition, would you be willing to organize neighbors in Ocean Beach Estates to circulate the petition. Also, I would ask that a neighbor in Pinehurst take the initiative to help circulate the petition in Pinehurst. If this is agreeable, please post your proposed circulation dates in a reply to this comment. Also, if anyone has questions, concerns, or objections to the proposed petition, please comment in the ''Smart Area Growth'' discussion string.



PROPOSED SMART GROWTH PETITION:

We residents of St. Andrews Subdivision, Pinehurst Subdivison, Ocean Beach Estates, and neighboring properties petition the Jackson County Board of Supervisors, particularly Supervisor John McKay, to help us maximize within walking distance of our homes shared green spaces that will improve the quality of our lives.

We also petition for help in promoting and controlling commercial development in order to reduce our dependence on automobiles for necessities and necessary services.

To this end, we ask the Board of Supervisors to establish a Smart Growth commission for the St Andrews-Pinehurst-Ocean Beach area. It should be required that any changes in zoning for the St Andrews-Pinehurst-Ocean Beach area be first approved by the Smart Growth Commission and that the commission's plans be incorporated into the County's plans for growth in the county.

I agree for the most part of what you suggest, but I think your statement of petition is too liberal. I would support a committee or ''Panel'' to support this idea, but ''NOT'' on their merit, alone. Been there and done that. That's like giving someone a blank check. I like having a say so in what we as a community need and require. I would suggest that you add a section that has some type of voter participation or other means by which we can say nay or yeh!
