Head in Sand

Paul, you still have your head in the sand as far as Tom Watkins is concerned. You did not do your ''homework'' on his history before supporting him for mayor.

People like him do not change. He has been at it for too long. Never in my life have I done what he has. I doubt anyone in Valleyview has. But some of them know of his ''deeds''.

He has some relatives who were all to willing to tell me. How do you think I knew who were two of his ex-employers? How do you think I knew why he was fired? If one hadn't known him all his life and liked Will and Elizabeth, where do you think Watkins would be?

Watkins was only trying to cover his history when he said I stole from the Village. What do you think he did?

Where did I defend Watkins? My posting was stating that what happened in the past is not what happened this time.

The meetings were held in a public forum. The meetings were announced (but they could have done a better job).

You want to bring up unrelated information to this discussion about the Village hiring a garbage collector. What does Tom Watkins former employment have to do with a Council made up of individuals who for the most part did not live in the Village when the last garbage hauling contract was passed?

You still have this conspiracy theory trying to work through the Village. Russolillo is gone. Are there people that supported him still living here? Yes, but he does not control any of the decisions made by the current Council.

Tom Watkins cannot spend one dime of the Village's money without the approval of the Council. He cannot sign a check or get any of the money of the Village. The Checks and Balances that are in place are working. The Fiscal Officer maintains the books and issues the Purchase Orders. A member of the Council signs the checks. Each check needs two signatures. The Fiscal Officer can only issue a purchase order if the Council has approved the appropriations for that line item.

This discussion is about the Village picking a new garbage hauler. Everything at this time appears that it was done correctly. The communication could have been better from the Council and Mayor.

Where is the issue Ms. White? Are you angry that the Village choose a different garbage hauler than your chosen one? As you have stated you chose Waste Management because it was cheaper. If Rumpke was cheaper would that not be the right decision to make for the residents of this Village?

Watkins will always be a problem. It is just a matter of time. Do you know if anything is missing at the Vilage Hall?

I wasn't mayor just on council. That didn't stop you from trying to make residents think I stole $79,000. I didn't see you write that I couldn't write checks. I had no access to funds.

What Watkins did to his former employers is very relevant. He should not be allowed to act in any way for the Village. He should not even have a key to the building. He will slip up. It is his nature.

Explain how I am covering for Mr. Watkins? I thought this discussion was about the garbage hauling contract.

I do not believe that anyone stated that you stole $79,000. The question raised was what happened to the $79,000 once you and the others came into office. You could never answer that question. Even with the PERS and IRS debts there was enough money in the Village savings CDs to cover those expenses.

The question is not that you stole the money, but what did you and the others do with the money. It had to go somewhere and you and the others on council controlled the appropriations that allows the money to be spent. A Check cannot be written without Council approving the money in the appropriations.

Tom Watkins cannot write a check for the Village. A Check cannot be written for the Village without Council approving the appropriations.

If Mr. Watkins does slip up then the law will be followed and it will be brought to light.
