Sawmill Road Traffic Jam!

Posted in: Big Bear Farms
Sawmill road traffic jam is getting un-bearable. I have complained to the Ohio Department of Transporation, to find out that it is under the jurisdiction of Columbus City.

Therefore, I call them at 645-5660, and email them at streetsofcolumbus@columbus.gov. It seems to me that calling them and open an incident ticket is much more effective way.

It just takes more people effort/tickets to get something done for us living around sawmill. Spread the words around to get people calling 645-5660.

------------------------
Good afternoon,

The traffic on Sawmill Road on the north-side of I-270 is becoming unbearable. There are a lot of new commercial development, as well as mass dense housing (condominiums) development. Not to mention various developments on further north -- Sawmill Parkway, which are either in development or near completion. There is also a large Dublin high school (or middle school?) next to Sawmill road, inducing a lot of constant-traffic pain as well throughout the whole week, as they try to turn into Hard road from Sawmill or vice versa.

All these contributes to the stand-still of morning traffic, especially between Monday ~ Thursday from 7:30AM through 9AM, as well as in the evenings. Even the weekends also see heavy traffic.

May I remind you that these traffic jam is not due to construction at all. There were simply not enough roads, or not enough highway exits to accomodate the growing traffic.

There are really no good alternatives for residents living around Sawmil to head down-town. Route 315 North bound becomes 1 lane after I-270, and Route 33/Riverside Dr are winding through many traffic lights and no connection to the I-270.

Embarassing

Wow! I assume that the text in your post beginning with ''Good afternoon...'' is what you emailed to Columbus City? I must say that it was so poorly written with such horrible use of grammar that it is embarassing! It was so bad that I really had a hard time understanding your point! Now don't get me wrong, I'm not usually a stickler regarding such things. However, when you send something like this off to the city, you must take care to express yourself in an intelligent manner! I'm afraid you failed...Although I do agree with your concerns, I am embarassed to be represented by such poor use of the English language!!
To Embarrasing

I applaud the original poster for even taking the time to write this letter. I do not believe the City of Columbus is going to decide if they are going to do something based on how someone used the English language. Any intelligent person knows that some are better in grammar than others.

The only thing I am embarrased about are the people that continue to knock someone for what they do, no matter its intent. I sure as heck would hate to be a kid in your house!
Go with the flow

I agree Sawmill can be a pain. This is not a new problem, and one I have dealt with for many years. You just have to modify your schedule, and route to deal with it.

Leave at 7:00. Never a problem then. If you work downtown go to work a little early and work out at one of the many excercise facilities available there. Do some of the work you would have done at home. Have breakfast at work.

Other routes: Take Riverside drive and cut over to Sawmill south of 270. You can then cut over on Bethel, or Henderson and go to 315.

It is almost getting better to take Liberty to Hard or Snouffer and cut back to get on 270.

If you start down Sawmill and see it is backed up cut over to either Liberty or Riverside at the light at Summit View.

They are working on Emerald Parkway as we speak. It will take traffic from Sawmill to Dublin.

I have lived in this area since Sawmill was two lanes. It was a problem then, and has been changed to manage the growth. Just be glad you don't have to access downtown from 70. Try driving down Highway One in New Jersey at rush hour. Makes Sawmill look like an open road.

You should have thought about, and researched this before you moved here.

I avoid Sawmill during peek traffic.
I don't think the City of Columbus is going to, or can do any more to resolve this issue. They have larger issues to deal with in other areas.
