Just completed an awesome class given by Neighborhood Alliance! We should state in our by-law that all ONA leaders must attend this class & encourage members to go, as well. Anyone that knows me, know that I have a compassion to see improvement and things done right for Oakcliffers! But in some cases, I didn't know the proper way to go about getting things accomplished; I wished I had had this class earlier! Scripture calls it ''zeal without knowledge''. I now know how the meetings should be conducted, and there is also an associaiton dedicated to helping neighborhoods understand Robert's Rule of Order. (The gavel is rarely used..) You don't have to feel ignorant, any longer about how to use the proper motion terms, there is a team of people that meet the 3rd Thursday every month, to help you learn. You can catch them the next week after ONA's meeting. They love getting new people to teach. I got ideas from other neighborhoods, as well, and there are some sucessful ones. We are doing pretty good, ahead of a lot... For further enhancement,I'm planning to attend a retreat one weekend in August! If you are serious about improving your neighborhood you need the tools, call Georgie and find out what is available to you, so far it all has been FREE! They will make you feel needed, they say that the Neighborhood Association is one-step under the City Council! Wow! After this class, I understand why. Learned too many things to mention in this writing. P.S. The Mayor presented me with a gavel at the graduation.
