OLD 51 GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEEETING

June 13, 2012

Steering Committee attendance:  Mike Madere, Angel Torres, Lloyd Johnson, &Cliff Hebert

Attendance:  16

1. Prayer and pledge lead by Mitch Elfer
2. Mike Madere thanked everyone for attending.
3. Guest Speaker – Jobe Boucvalt, Home Land Security Emergency Preparness.  Introduced himself.  Background – worked at Marathon and retired last August 2011.  In January, Natalie Robottom hired him to take this position.  This office is not a 24 hour operation, office hours are Monday thru Friday 8am-4:30pm.  You can leave a message or if emergency call 911.  There are 3 people in this office, Jobe, Cathy Gilmore and clerical.  They work to put plans in effect for hurricane preparness.  If there is an emergency, they have several volunteers set up to help out.  Also, the surrounding plants are a big help.  He passed out brochures.  Informed up that you can call 985-652-2222 from cell phone and set up 1^st call which will send you a text notifying you of any emergency.  Also, you can sign up on website www.sjbparish.com.  Scroll down on left hand side under important links.  Then click on 1^st call interactive network.
4. Recorders report was read by Angel Torres.
5. Treasurer report – Mike Madere reported balance was $3000.00 and we currently have 77 paying members.  It was suggested that we offer a door prize to get more people to attend.
6. Old Business

• All businesses complying except for Franks Body Shop.
• Our flower bed is maintained by Larry Clark and we made an agreement with parish to keep up the flower bed next to ours and they would maintain the rest.
• Michael Wright is suppose to get back with status of business behind Airline Motors.  They were digging clay and selling it, parish did shut down.
• Requested litter can on north end of Old 51 west side.
• Houses that are not livable – Brewer house currently working on.  New complaint – barn behind Keating house on Nolan Dr. falling down.
• Canals are scheduled to be cleaned.
• Complained about traffic speeding on Old 51.

1. New Business

• Box sign for meeting dates or any other information installed at both ends of Old 51.  Contact Cliff Hebert if there is something you would want to put.
• David Cali will maintain our internet website.  Send him any news or pictures so he can add.
• Intersection of New 51 & Old 51 north end – looking to add a turning lane or a traffic light which involves DOTD.
• Danny Noel will get prices on signs to put on Old 51 – Christmas, July 4^th etc.
• Member requested larger street sign for Main St. by new 51.  Mike Madere will take care of.
• Billy Terry fire hydrant not working.  He reported and Mike will report also.

1.   Closing Comments

• Next meeting will be September 13 or 14 and picnic set for November 4.
• Asked for everyone’s email address because that will be how we notify of meeting dates.  If no email address, we will call.
