Hurricane Isaac Update:

Home Owner Association Meeting October 22, 2012

 

Present were:  Natalie Robottom, President

                              Paige Breau; Jobe Boucvault; Lucien Gauff

                              Members of Civic Assoc. Groups

Hurricane Isaac Update:

 

               4,000 people in Shelter; 2,000 are with families and friends; Over 5,000 qualified for hotels

               Some residents have not returned to St. John which affects our schools and funding to our community and schools.         Some residents have declined mobile homes so they have not returned to St. John

 

Housing remains to be a problem for St. John residents – we don’t have enough hotels, rentals, etc.  Unfortunately there are no monies that can be used to pay family members.

 

               Possible $3,000,000 hit to school system because of damages and loss of students

 

Thanks to Reverent Bernard at New Wine for turning their building into St. John headquarters so our residents could go to one place.  Recommend anyone in need to go to New Wine and sign up for FEMA and if FEMA does not approve you another avenue might open up.  Residents who have applied and have been denied FEMA aid have the right to appeal that decision or they will be able to apply to another department.  Remember to keep copies of everything.

 

Parish President’s office, Sherriff’s office, and School Board are all working together to assist everyone who was affected in St. John. 

 

               Oct. 28^th file for FEMA for eligibility DRC $31,400 maximum what FEMA can give

               Oct. 24^th at Civic Center Insurance Meeting – Someone will be there to answer questions.

 

               St. John the Baptist Long Term Recovery Groups have formed:

                              Volunteer & Donation Coordination

                              Case Management – will guide residents thru process

                              Construction/Clean up Coordination

                              Emotional & spiritual Care

                              Unmet Needs

FREM extended the deadline to apply for federal assistance until November 29th. Please go to www.disasterassistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362.
