Uptown Partnership Development Update - September 1, 2001

Dec 28, 2002

As of September 1, here's the latest news on the Uptown Partnership's proposed development at 22nd & Washington.

UP's Josh Huber reports that UP has not looked into changing the massing of the project, it remains at five stories and fifty units. Huber says he and UP are now looking into dropping their request for a zoning change and considering doing a mixed-use project at the site that will fit the existing zoning. Doing so would mean they would no longer need the approval of the neighborhood regarding zoning issues at the site.

The San Rafael Neighborhood Association remains opposed to UP's project. We feel the size, scale and density of the proposed structure are incompatible with the historic San Rafael neighborhood.

We are continuing to talk with UP to encourage them to build a smaller scaled project that fits the architecture and character of the neighborhood. Members of the San Rafael board will be meeting with UP next week to continue working toward that goal.
