While at at Yard Sale with the owner of the property at 18th Ave and First Street last week end, ( Father of Mercedes Flowers), it was revealed by an owner who says he is behind on his mortgage and needs to rent his renovated house to recovering alchollics, called a "Half way house." . Believe he said that the maxiumum number is 8.
He says he will make good money. No doubt...but on whose backs? His house is located on 18th Ave. approximately one house from the corner on the north side of the street. The assocation should know about this and provide imput into whether he can have the necessary variance to do this. Will it negatively impact the whole area? Will it further depress property values and prevent new buyers from coming in to join our efforts to make the Old SE even better? Property owners and even thouse who rent their property should be aware of this future plan and take appropriate action either to be in favor or against. So far the reaction of those who heard about it said a firm, "hell no." Even though the variance may onl;y notice property owners within so many feet, the whole Old SE area should give imput as it impacts all of us who care about the quality of life here.
