Display Vehicles For Sale

Posted in: Arvada West
Have you seen vehicles with ?“For Sale?” signs parked in shopping center parking lots or upon vacant land on any given weekend? Such vehicles are parked illegally and are subject to being ticketed, and the owner responsible for a fine.

The City of Arvada prohibits parking a vehicle upon private property belonging to another person for the principal purpose of displaying the vehicle for sale. It is also unlawful for the owner of the private property to allow another person to park his or her vehicle on the
owner?’s property for the principal purpose of displaying the vehicle for
sale. Arvada also prohibits parking a vehicle upon a street, roadway, alley, or sidewalk or in a park or public parking lot for the principal purpose of displaying the vehicle for sale. If the vehicle is parked on private property with a ?“For Sale?” sign in the window, the law presumes the vehicle is parked there primarily to display the vehicle
for sale.

These weekend ?“car lots?” create visual clutter, and the vehicles are subject to vandalism since the owner is usually not around the car.

The minimum fine for violating this ordinance is $40. Repeat offenders may be fined up to $999. A newspaper advertisement costs less than the minimum fine.

You can drive a vehicle with a sign stating ?“For Sale?” to and from work or to the ballgame or to go shopping. But if you leave the vehicle parked on someone else?’s property all day with a ?“For Sale?” sign, it could be a costly experience.
