Overland Neighborhood Association (ONA)
Minutes of 7/26/07 Meeting
Call to Order (CTO) by President Catherine Sandy at 6:37pm at John Collins Church, 2320 S. Bannock.
Present: See sign-up sheet.
Minutes of last month?’s meeting were approved, except to note that Kevin?’s birthday was his 51st.
Treasurer Lois Strohmeyer?’s report showing a balance of $1,264.60 was approved.
District 4 Lt. Marshall says a graffiti strike force, headed by Sgt. Andrew Howard (720-913-0286), is planned. Except for graffiti, Marshall noted all other crimes are down in Overland, and that the Department of Homeland Security welcomes ?“eyes and ears?” around the Evans Light Rail station. Our new neighborhood liaison is Officer Jaime Lucero.
Catherine Sandy said there was a spirited Denver City Council meeting on July 9 about the proposed Excel transmission towers through Ruby Hill Park. A decision on Councilman Charlie Brown?’s attempted end-around the Planning Commission?’s rejection of Excel?’s variance application to the view plane ordinance was postponed until July 30. Meanwhile Sandy and other neighborhood folk heroes are in private mediation with Excel.
New District 7 Councilman Chris Nevitt introduced his aides, Valerie Kerns (formerly on Kathleen MacKenzie?’s staff) and Jennifer Redies. Redies noted that the sex offender flyer being circulated is a scam. Nevitt is busy setting up his office in the City and County Building, and plans monthly office hours for all neighborhood meetings. ONA?’s slot would be at the Hooka Caf?© on Broadway an hour before our monthly meeting.
Two western quadrant residents sought help with a nuisance property at 2000 S. Fox, the apparent headquarters of the ?“red T-shirt gang.?” The new owners are Linda and Peter Raub. Suggestions included contacting Neighborhood Inspection, Denise at the Building Department and ONAWatch mavens John and Rebecca.
Kevin Dickson noted that the zoning code is being rewritten. He said John Damiano is still trying to buy the junkyard lot at Evans and Delaware. He?’s ?“not interested in a tower?” at that site. Kevin also notes DU faculty and students moving into Overland.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:26pm, a possible record for brevity.
