Overland Neighborhood Association (ONA)
Minutes of 8/23/07 Meeting
Call to Order (CTO) by President Catherine Sandy at 6:38pm at John Collins Church, 2320 S. Bannock.
Present: Catherine Sandy, Charley Samson, James Sample, Ray Ehrenstein, Jennifer Redies, Steve Nash, Janelle Kenny, Judy Greek.
Minutes of last month?’s meeting were approved, except to change last sentence of Ruby Hill towers paragraph to read: ?“Meanwhile Sandy and other neighborhood folk heroes are in mediation with Excel.?”
There was no treasurer?’s report as Treasurer Lois Strohmeyer was absent. Last month?’s balance of $1,264.60 was noted.
?“The Caucus,?” which includes neighborhood association presidents and various ?“helpers?” (like the pro bono engineer) were scheduled to meet at this location immediately after our meeting. They plan an August 30 meeting with the Mayor and affected councilpersons. President Sandy said the City at this point will not waive the $5000 Letter of Intent fee, nor the $10,000 Petition and Draft Ordinance fee. 400 signatures were collected in just 4 days. District 6 Councilman Charlie Brown is talking about restricting his amendment to the Ruby Hill Excel towers only. Denver City Council meets on September 10 to consider the matter.
District 7 Councilman Chris Nevitt?’s aide, Jennifer Redies, said the mayor may propose city-wide underground transmission lines. Independent engineers will evaluate Excel?’s claims. There has been a ?“dramatic shift in support?” for the underground plan, which she credited to the neighborhood organizations.
The Graffiti Task Force?’s first meeting will be Wed. Aug. 29at 2:00pm at 2100 S. Clay. There will be others. Also, a graffiti sting is planned for Aug 25: meet at District 4 at 7:30pm, sting from 9:30pm ?– 1:30am.
Redies also mentioned that Aqua Golf has funding for public art. Possible screeners of submitted slides might include neighborhood types. Also, there?’s a workshop on trolleys on Sept. 27 from 8am ?– 5pm in the auditorium at 1477 Columbine.
Nevitt?’s first meeting (an hour before our own) produced no-shows even among the staff at the Hooka Caf?©. Sandy suggested meeting at the Overland Golf Course clubhouse instead.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:21pm, besting last month?’s brevity record by 6 minutes.
