Minutes of 6/22/06 Meeting

Jun 30, 2006

Call to Order (CTO) by President Unruh at 6:49pm at John Collins Church, 2320 S. Bannock.

Present: President Jack Unruh, Vice President Catherine Sandy, Secretary Charley Samson, Treasurer Lois Strohmeyer, Database Coordinator Kevin Dickson, Candidate Chris Nevitt, Julie Connor (from Councilwoman MacKenzie?’s office), Neighbors Brandon Andrews, John Chapman, Dawn Dutton, Frank Dutton, Dora Greek, Judy Greek, Rob Hathtarob, Dana Jamison, Betsy Raube, Matt Riley, Ray Ehrenstein, Jim Sample.

Minutes of the last meeting were approved, as was the Treasurer?’s Report, which noted a balance of $1054.35, including $14.99 check to Catherine Sandy for last month?’s eats.

President Unruh faithfully traversed his agenda (see attached). Officer Roggeman was a no show, but has sent copies of Neighborhood Watch for collation.

Vice President Sandy noted that Linda and Carl Winder, who live across the street from the proposed basketball court at Pasquinel?’s Landing, expressed concern about the noise and echo, and the poisoned crab apples served to pets (animal shelter will test the bitter fruit, only then would the police intervene). Unruh has met with Parks and Recreation regarding signs requesting interest in said basketball court.

ONA yard signs were discussed, whether ?‘tis nobler to print a year?’s worth of date-specific signs or one universal ?“This Thursday?” sign. Also the question of a Spanish language version was introduced. Kevin Dickson will investigate the costs of acquiring ?“harps?” (the metal skeletons of the signs, not the Irish heraldic symbol).

Unruh has talked to RTD maintenance, which promises to repair the exhibits at the Evans Light Rail Station.

Julie Connor arrived with plans for Aqua Golf, set for completion in 2007. It will include a car wash, shops and a clubhouse. She noted that Parks and Recreation ?“doesn?’t welcome neighborhood input.?” Fond memories and paranoid fantasies were recalled.

Unruh will consult an ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) expert about the Evans bridge. Tales of the infamous wheelchair bandit were recalled.

Dickson said that ?“main street?” zoning is recommended by the City for TOD (Transit Oriented Development) around the Evans Station. Delaware Street is ?“ready.?” Dickson noted that the idea of ?“Granny flats?” is coming back. Unruh said he favors the idea, as ?“more people means more clout.?”

Shattuck site will open new vistas for land for ONA. A biotech firm is interested; there?’s also Ajax Plating and Harmon Glass (formerly Gump).

Lionstone and Cherokee developments around the former Gates Rubber plant will result in 65,000 new trips down Broadcast. Sandy cringed when Unruh mentioned Acoma St. as an ?“off Broadway?” alternative. A pilot program on Broadway from Arkansas to Iowa will include ?“bump-outs,?” trees, median strips, and possible underground utilities. Trains will have a top speed of 15mph around the McStain development.

Facing the October deadline, current ONA officers agreed Stay the course, as no new candidates came forward. Unruh suggested new board positions: quadrant representatives (i.e., Kevin would be south east quadrant rep, Catherine would be north east quadrant rep), This produced and avalanche of acronisms: NEQR, SEQR, NWQR, SWQR, etc.

With Vice President Sandy?’s spirited incantation (?“Let?’s go home?”), the meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
