As a relative newcomer to these issues, I see some resounding issues that need questions asked and answers provided. Perhaps I should change my alias to The Questioner! Forgive me if these questions have been asked and answered before, but there are too many postings to go through to see.
As a spokesperson for PLSD Mr. Uher has pointed out issues relating to growth in the district. For that I am grateful. PLSD has selected a very informed person for this role. These questions, though, are directed to the community and its leaders as a whole. If you are an agent of one of these entities, as Mr. Uher is, that?’s fine but the actual officials?’ responses would be preferred, i.e. Councilmen, Trustees, Board Members, PLSD Administrators.
1. Are there any plans to reestablish a facilities review committee for PLSD to bring the 1997 plan up to date accounting for possible anomalies where possibly unexpected growth has occurred since 1997 and newer information for growth that is available today?
2. Is there a chance that this type of committee should become more of a permanent fixture?
3. If so, shouldn?’t this committee be selected in a more democratic fashion? Forgive me for not finding a better word than democratic, but if these committees that PLSD keeps establishing are essentially comprised of the same people time and again, won?’t they generally draw the same conclusions and make the same recommendations time and again?
4. Should the school boundary committee look beyond establishing boundaries for the new high and junior high to effect boundary changes for all of PLSD, accounting for where growth has occurred since 1997 and new information for growth available today?
5. Should a third party objectively validate the numbers being provided to the public by PLSD as potential growth indicators?
6. Should there be established a liaison committee to act as a nonpartisan mediation board between the entities governing in the PLSD and its adjacent neighbors to address common issues? Has this type of citizen involvement been tried in other communities?
7. Given that City Council decisions regarding annexations and zoning have a direct and sometimes immediate effect on Township residents and the PLSD, shouldn?’t the Council be more respectful and sensitive to concerns voiced by Township residents about City issues?
