I want to point out the PATA web pages to your left. The WEB master has posted a letter from Mr. Mapes to the Village of Canal Winchester. The City of Pickerington is declaring the water and sewer agreement with Canal ?“Null and Void.?” That means we must now develop our own sewer system for the Diley Farm (520 Homes) the build out of Sycamore creek (700 homes). Many in this city don?’t have sewer service. Yet they are going to overload the Sycamore creek with our sewage. Now to get that much sewage we must have a water supply.
Pickerington is muffed that Canal drilled a well in the CEDA area, which also is the same area that was once the called the Pickerington water service area. So if Pickerington cuts off their water to Canal and just services Pickerington the question is will he have enough water to serve everyone in the city?
Pickerington has agreed to only pump 2.2 million gallons per day out of the Diley Road well field, because of concerns about the effects that it might have on the Pickerington Ponds water levels. So here is the math question. If it takes 350 gallons per household and we currently have 2700 to 3000 households in this city how many more houses can the city serve? Just to serve the current households we will use up half of all the water coming from the Diley well field.
The city has a second well field and that is up at Hertford. They claim they can pump another million gallons out of that well. However there are some problems with that well. It is very close to the rail line and it could easily be contaminated with any kind of spill along the rail line. So if we add the two wells together we can maybe pump 3.2 million gallons per day. Both wells present some problems if they would occur. What happens if we have a rail line spill? What happens if on some very dry summer and we begin to pump the Pickerington Ponds dry? What happens if we have a spill and we must then increase the pumping rate above the agreed upon 2.2 million gallon per day?
So if you have done the math, then you will find that if everything works the way the City is thinking then we will be able to support 8,000 to 9,000 houses with the Pickerington Well system. Subtract the current 3000 then you will see they plan on increasing the number of houses by at least 5,000 homes. So let?’s count: Sycamore Creek=700 homes, Diley Farm = 520, Painter/Kohler = 320 homes, Good addition = 320 homes Preston Trails build out = 450 homes, Manchester build out = 75 homes, Sheffield = 110 homes, Shawnee Trails = 157 homes, Windmiller Ponds = 187 homes, Longview acres = 45 homes, this new condo development = 126 homes, Viola Park = 245 new homes, Milner addition = 65 homes.
There is more planning that I don?’t know about yet. They are waiting on Maxey to get them approved through the service committee. With just the count about that puts us over 6300 homes in a very short time frame. At the minimum this will require the 2.2 million GPD. If we sever our ties with Canal and the county will Picktown turn to Columbus for water? What happens if the Pickerington Ponds begin to dry up? What happens if the Hertford well gives out of gets contaminated? Can we afford all this expansion?
