POLK COUNTY HISTORICAL STUDIES --- DES MOINES, IOWA

Sawyer's Landing as of 1-7-2006

Posted in: Lower Beaver
I wish someone had purchased this property years go or that Polk County would have acquired it.

With that said, the Tai Village group has given the developer and option to purchase and a plan is on the table. No one listened to the residents through the process until it went before the City Council and your voices were heard.

Thanks to everyone's protesting, attending meetings and hard work we have an alternate plan from the city regarding storm water and traffic that the developer has agree to. None of this would have been done without YOU! The storm water (option 2) seems to be a good solution and if it doesn't work, the city will have to fix it. Traffic would been greatly improved with a southern outlet like MLK Jr. Pkwy or 30th but MLK Jr. Pkwy is off the table and CIP funding is needed for a future 30th street access.

Are these solutions enough for you? Every resident needs to decide that for themselves and advise their elected leaders. Monday, January 9, 2006 is the City Council Meeting when this all will be decided. The vote is not a certainty.

Now we need to work with Parks Department planners to develop a new master plan now that there is a proposed street to end near the east end of the park and a trail connection. What enhancements do you want done?
