On August 29, 2009, the residents and friends of Palmetto Beach gathered together to create the community garden. Two raised beds were created - one with vegetables such as peppers, tomatoes, green beans, peas, and lettuce; the other with herbs including tarragon, thyme, cilantro, and lavender.
Councilwoman Mary Mulhern; Rick Martinez, Director, Sweetwater Organic Farm; USF student volunteers; and representatives from News Channel 8, St. Petersburg Times, and Tampa Tribune all attended.
