If the City wants to learn how to actually accomplish something in the area of road and street repairs, it could learn a few things from Jefferson Parish. A few years ago, Jefferson Parish passed a $125 million bond issue, and has converted that through keen management into approximately $600 million of road and street improvements. Needless to say, City streets under the outgoing administration have essentially gone backwards with street repairs. After deducting the costs of new orange barrels to cover potholes and underground water gushers, our Public Works Department only had $74 left in its budget with which it purchased a new ?“Bridge May Freeze Before Roadway?” sign.
