Minutes from the October 12, 2005 Meeting
Jon Clarke from the City of Longmont Neighborhoods Program
joined us at the October meeting.
Discussion of pros and cons of the tree trimming were discussed; Safety, criminal activity supported by environmental elements, views and sound barriers, maintenance of natural beautification, wildlife habitats.
Steps were reviewed in a brainstorming session to improve our neighborhood and how to beautify the area while making it less conducive to crime. With the thinning of brush, (which is the city?’s maintenance responsibility), it includes the removal of nuisance trees - and that is where we are now.
A meeting was scheduled with Gene from the Parks Department and Jon Clarke, our Neighborhood Resource Coordinator on Monday October 24th at 3:00pm to discuss a compromise between our concerns (preservation vs. thinning), and the city's interest in removing what it considers hazardous and nuisance trees.
Jon Clarke also informed us about an Open House at the Memorial Building on
November 2 from 7:00pm-9:00pm to discuss remodeling of the empty firehouse -
Architects will be on hand to discuss possible uses for the building and
what the neighborhood would like and support.
Neighbors who have submitted email addresses to us should have
received email notification of both the above meetings.
The issue of graffiti was raised. Discussion of supplies sought and needed to continue with the eradication going forward. Jon reiterated that the city would continue with support.
We also talked about the neighborhood sign for which at this point we are waiting for our Right of Way permit. Jon indicated that we would need to work with a licensed and bonded (insured) contractor, per the city's regulations, for liability reasons. Costen is working with his contact at the Public Works Department. Jon Clarke also offered to provide us with names of contractors the city has worked with before.
YOU ARE THE VOICE OF YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD!
