HIGHLIGHTS OF GENERAL MEETING

General Meeting was held Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at Rizal Community Center

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
?• Winners were announced from the PENNA 2005 Christmas Home Decorating Contest. Gloria Valencia of 4928 First Parkway was present to receive the first place award of a $50 Home Depot gift card. The second and third place winners were not in attendance and forfeited their awards.

NEW BUSINESS
?• Lisa Dills reported on the City and County phone cards. She passed out cards to all present. The cards will also be distributed at future PENNA meetings and events.
?• Jennifer Thomas reported on Neighborhood Watch. She encouraged people to call the sheriff?’s department to report any criminal activity. In Zone 2 (North Parkway Estates), Thursdays is the day of the week for most burglaries. In December 2005 our area had two burglaries and one theft was reported.
Concern was expressed about speed lumps. People are passing across the yellow and still speeding.
?• Questions about Florin Mall ?– Closes February 28th. Concerns were voiced about the increased traffic in our neighborhood after the Super Wal-Mart opens. It was stressed we need to let our county reps know that a new traffic study needs to be done.

OTHER
?• President Michael Whitten announced that this is the 10th year anniversary of PENNA. Also that new officers will be elected in Fall 2006. He asked everyone to think about who to nominate when the election opens.
?• Betty Willmon reported on a meeting she attended to help develop a positive image for South Sacramento. There is another meeting scheduled and she is asking all interested to attend to brainstorm on updating the South Area image.
?• The meeting is scheduled for March 4, 2006 from 9AM to 12NOON at the Girls and Boys Club, 5212 Lemon Hill Avenue. Sponsored by South Sacramento Neighborhood Services ?“Right Answer Forum.?”

GUEST SPEAKERS ?– JIMMY YEE and VICTOR MORRISION VEGA
?• Jimmie Yee, who is running for County Supervisor Illa Collin?’s seat spoke to PENNA. He is retired from Sacramento City Council after serving 12 years. His focus is on flood control, transportation/traffic, jobs/economic development, county budget, health funds, raising revenue, regional services (between county and city) and accountability officer to investigate complaints and concerns., Mr. Yee is endorsed by Illa Collin who is retiring this year after 28 years in public service.

?• VICTOR MORRISON VEGA, Manager of County Department of Neighborhood Services talked to PENNA about coordinating of services (city and county). He also discussed the illegal dumping program and code enforcement. He is interested in developing community advisory councils and Neighborhood Services is looking at priorities for county neighborhood services and need community input.
