SKUNKS & SKUNK STENCH RX

Posted in: Parkwood
The skunks continue to be a problem, although not as bad as a few years ago. Our dog got it right in our back yard twice, in spite of the privacy fence, one of the most UNFORGETTABLE experiences in our lives. I discovered a sure-fire remedy to remove the stench, better than tomato juice: Mix 1 quart of peroxide, a tablespoon of baking soda, a squirt of dish detergent (not the stuff for the dishwasher which would burn the skin), and sponge the dog until the odor is gone. It works.

Good advice

My family lives in Parkwood and, although they don't have any dogs, they have had a skunk show up in the backyard on occasion. I live elsewhere in San Antonio and also have skunks occasionally (my neighborhood also has a greenbelt, though much smaller than Parkwood's). We had an awful stench once when a stray cat (obviously not ours -- ours never leave the house, period.) spooked the skunks... I didn't know if my backyard deck would EVER go back to smelling normal. [It did.]

I've always heard of tomato juice. Your advice sounds like it's even better and I'll have to file it away in the unfortunate event I or someone I know ever needs it. :)
