Suggest we start calling what we have previously referred to as our Community Center our RECREATION CENTER!

The Rec Ctr will hopefully be opening relatively soon and we need to put together lots of fun and valuable activities for all of us to partake.

Need your ideas posted here as well as inviting yourselves to participate in making up an activity schedule for the Rec Ctr. We can set up activities by age group, by activity, by day of the week, by organization, as well as leaving openings for private uses of the Ctr.

Some early ideas for activities:

Drop off place for children to be supervised so Parkwood Mom's can have a quiet hour to themselves on this day or that day. Kids can partake in activities to occupy themselves with other Moms supervising on a rotating basis.

Teens can sponsor Pizza (Etc.) Parties, prepare the food/condiments, set up and clear up (etc.) themselves and put on a fun snack/meal for all comers regularly or otherwise.

Girl Scout meetings.

Boy Scout meetings.

Bingo Day/Night once-twice a week.

Women's Exercise Program once-twice a week.

Sponsored talks/discussions with local authorities, community leaders, authors, former presidents, etc.

Neighborhood Watch/COPS meetings.

Parkwood Flea Market planning meetings.

Teen Pool Party planning meetings.

Kid's Games Days.

How to find a job or make yourself money this summer meetings.

Post club and babysitting, lawn mowing, landscaping, car washing, sidewalk pressure washing, beginner swimming training needs/interests.

Your ideas? Post them here! Include contact information! Stir the pot and let's invent a Rec Ctr for all of us to partake and enjoy!

We can schedule some meetings in early June to figure out how to get these activities started immediately. Spread the word! No one will arrange these things for you - we have to pick something we want and make it happen. ''Ask not what your Mom can do for you, ask what you can do for your Mom'' -- applies here in spades!!!

Please step up and add ideas and who to contact to get the pump primed!
rec center

I am glad to hear that there will be activities in the rec center. My family and I already spend alot of time at the pool. It would be great to participate further in any thing we decide to do.
I also want to suggest that we can
--have block parties to meet our neighbors
--reading times for all ages
--bake sales etc. to pay for equipment needed in rec center.
--not wanting to leave activities out for the men, may I suggest a friendly night of playing cards.
--onle last idea would be tennis lessons that I for one would like.

I think this summer will be full of positive endeavors for Parkwood.

We Need More Ideas and Action

Our scheduled meeting of June 9 went as scheduled, but without attendees!

Tried to post notice of our meeting on the marquee at Cedar Park and Autumn Park but the HOA BOD refused to post it.

Strange, yes?

Well, please continue to post your ideas here and we will again try to schedule another get together meeting and make something we want in Parkwood to happen.

Do not make the mistake of presuming the HOA BOD will create anything - all we want right now is for them to even get the Rec Ctr OPEN.

Sandra has the right ideas; post yours here.

Meeting of July 14

We had three Parkwood residents attend our meeting to discuss activities the residents want for the Recreation Center. We noted those ideas already posted at this web site and planned to add to that list for all to review. We set another meeting for July 28, same time and place, to continue this activity. The Recreation Center is beginning to look ready for opening; the contractor has a little more landscaping requirements to meet; the windows look all ready. We also discussed that the newsletter will begin to take on a much needed and desired improved look and content. Hopefully more residents will attend the next meeting to grow the plans for making the Recreation Center a major drawing card for our neighborhood that it is.
