Minutes of Meeting
Monday August 24, 2009
7:00 PM West St Petersburg

The meeting was opened by President Cynthia Burton and the introduction of Officer Hubbard and crime watch. Officer Hubbard reiterated the phone numbers we should be using to report incidences:

Bike trail reports are down and our neighborhood remains one of the lowest crime areas in the city.
Be sure to report all unlicensed solicitors who you find going door to door.

Introduction of our local councilmen Herb Poulin. Herb continued the crime discussion. Talking about events that have occurred in his neighborhood and how things like an email tree have worked.

St Petersburg College is not going to buy the house originally planned to be used for for women?’s housing. The college is looking at other options that would include properties already owned by the college.

Herb also discussed the cleaning up of he palm trees along 5th and 66th Street and 22nd Ave will be repaved from 58th to Tyrone Blvd.

There will be a public hearing of Bay Walk issues on Sept 3rd.

The Mayoral election is next Tuesday, Sept 1st with the general election on January 10th.

The ?“police on horse?” proposition passed 6 to 1. The horses will be coming from Boston who is getting rid of the program because of the cost involved in maintaining it.

Also discussed: the importance of voting. Generally a very small percentage of people actually turn out to vote in any given election. Anyone winning the majority vote by more than 50 % will automatically win the election and there will be no additional vote in January.

Code enforcement number 727-893-7373

Cindy Burton asked for someone to put together a list of foreclosed homes in our neighborhood. Jan R. from 4th Ave volunteered to do this. Jan can be reached at 727-347-3536 or by email at jrspb@tampabay.rr.com Jan asked that anyone contacting her to please provide addresses.

This was followed by a discussion about the neighborhood signage and where these would go. Several options were presented such as at 5th Ave and 66th Street across from the college. Also, Travelers Way and Central next to the Bike trail. Other options included the medium located on 66th/Pasadena Ave. and Dartmouth and 4th Ave. Jana Steinhour let everyone know she had taken pictures of the possible locations and could share those via our web site. The sign size will be 24?” by 24?” and we can receive 4 at no cost from the city.

Carol, our communication officer, can be reached at 727-384-6242 or Cgambrel@tampabay.com
