City celebrates another successful 65th Annual Portsmouth Invitational Tournament
Monday, April 17, 2017, The City of Portsmouth was host to 64 of the best college basketball players (seniors) from across the nation in its 4-day, 12 game tournament the P.I.T. (Portsmouth Invitational Tournament). The Tournament is one of two pre-draft camps that give “off the radar players” the opportunity to showcase their skills to scouts and agents from every National Basketball Association team in the league and over 4,800 people who enjoyed some of the nation’s best college basketball players battle it out over the weekend.
The Portsmouth Partnership team took the 1st place trophy home. The team consisted of standouts like Ole Miss’s Sebastian Saiz, George Washington’s Tyler Cavanaugh, and the Tournament MVP from Houston, Damyean Dotson.
The mission of the PIT is to contribute back to the community by awarding scholarships to student athletes from the surrounding local schools. Over the years the P.I.T. has been a showcase for five of the 50 greatest players in NBA History. With plans to continue this long-standing tournament, Portsmouth is proud of its 65 years of success. Holding a prestigious reputation among college players and coaches, the NBA and many professional basketball leagues around the globe, this tournament has a very bright future.
