Hi! My name is Tiffany Carroll, and I am a resident of Perkins Oaks Neighborhood. Four years ago when I moved here, part of the appeal was the neighborhood was not a new development where the houses all look the same. I loved the trees that shaded the lots. I also liked the fact that my home was mine, and I did not have to get approval on what color I painted it. Our neighborhood is unique in that way. However, there are times when communication is beneficial.
The entrance to the neighborhood is in serious need of renovation. The trees were damaged during Hurricane Gustav, and we need a new sign. Thank you to whoever was maintaining it, and the hope is that maybe we can get a group of volunteers to take care of it so that it would not burden one person. I also want to thank the person(s) responsible for the stop signs. That was a good idea to help improve speeding in the neighborhood. Since I have lived here, we have had two major hurricanes and some small burglaries. These things affect us all. They affect our property value.
I am inviting everyone help create the Perkins Oaks Civic Group. The Group would address such topics as maintaining neighborhood appearance, neighborhood watch and safety, and to act as a liaison with elected officials, city services and police authorities. The Group would be a non-profit organization that would be run strictly by volunteers and donations from the neighborhood. No dues would be required. I took the liberty of setting up a free web-based community that could be the ?“go-to-place?” for all of our neighborhood information, suggestions and needs. The website is www.neighborhoodlink.com/prairieville/perkinsoaks if you would like to check it out.
Please join me in taking care of our neighborhood. You can contact me by phone 673-9763 or e-mail ttcmail@eatel.net. I would like to set up a casual meeting to gather ideas within next month. I hope to hear from you soon!
