Feathered Friends

Posted in: LakeSide on Preston
There are some truly compassionate residents in LakeSide who love their feathered friends. On the other hand, there are those who seem to lack conscience and kindness when they maim or kill innocent ducks and ducklings! Neighbors, please report any cruel deeds observed at the lake or other locations by posting your observations to this site so that we--who love God's creatures--can stand ready to defend innocent fowl. Whoever you are--please stop your assault on wonderful friends who add beauty & enjoyment to our lakes! I urge all neighbors to be on the lookout for any animal cruelty. Thank you--and God thanks you.

Ducks

I too am concerned about the ducks. So many times I have had to tell kids not to kick or chase the ducks and their babies. Many times the parents were right there and did nothing to stop their children. Then I received dirty looks for saying something to them. I just don't get it. Parents please teach your children to respect all animals.
Protect the Wildlife!

Very happy to see Gisela's participation in my opening discussion over Lakeside's fowl. We also care about the rabbits, squirrels, and other wildlife which make our community so special! Imagine the neighborhood without them, and it becomes apparent that our ''home'' would just be like every other neighborhood. Many of us chose to live here because of the ''country'' feel bordered by busy corridors. However, the real issue is protecting our natural resources--our wildlife and our lakes.

We also need to humble ourselves and collect litter whenever we come upon them (in lakes, alongside our sidewalks and trails, entrances, etc.). Because we are fortunate to live in such a beautiful neighborhood, let's not forget humility--which makes all things great!

Walkers & joggers would do a great service to this neighborhood by taking a plastic grocery bag along for the walk! I've walked up our street to collect trash blown from the main highway. It doesn't take much time or effort or trashbin space to maintain the beauty of our neighborhood. Please do your part, neighbors! Thanks!

Each Fall, or more often, we should begin a neighborhood tradition and clean up the litter left by little goblins or blowing winds, and we can call our effort, ''Stoop-2-Scoop'' Day!

I'm glad to learn that our ducks are being trapped humanely and sent to a Wildlife Refuge whenever overcrowding at Lakeside is an issue. I'm not insensitive to neighbors who border the lakes. I'm mainly concerned about animal cruelty and hope all residents will report any abuse. We can band together as the ''Lakeside Wildlife Neighborhood Watch.'' Look for T-shirts to begin appearing with these words to identify your other concerned animal lovers. They would make great holiday stocking stuffers for your family members. Just go to the mall and have a kiosk vendor emblazon these words on the backs of your T-shirts!

Thanks for this discussion!
