The Pleasant View Social Club (PVSC) held its Fall Meeting at the Sun Hills Fire Station on Sun Hills Drive on October 13, 2007. Approximately 30 people attended including 5 new members. The following topics were discussed:
?• The Northern El Paso County Coalition of Community Associations (NEPCO) representative discussed a recent issue in Gleneagle involving a proposal to build 4 homes and 50 patio homes on the Gleneagle golf course and driving range in order to raise money for a new irrigation system. The NEPCO representative was requesting support to oppose this proposed development.
?• The Donald E. Wescott Fire Station Captain Mike Whiting presented an update including the current personnel status of having 3 shifts (24/7) of 4 full-time personnel with a 2-man engine contingent. He also indicated that it also has approximately 40 volunteers. They may be hiring additional full time personnel. The biggest worries regarding Pleasant View are excessive ladder fuels and the lack of defensible space around homes. He stated that homes should be cleared of ladder fuels for a 30 feet distance from the structure. Ladder fuels include wood piles, pine needles, trees, etc. Pleasant View is included in the Red Zone designation which is not good. He indicated that the Fire Department is willing to conduct both interior and exterior fire inspections/assessments of homes at no cost. The station phone number is 488-8680, and the web site URL is www.wescott.fire.org.
?• The County Commissioner, Mr. Wayne Williams, provided road reports on Struthers Road, the Baptist Road ?– I-25 Interchange, and Baptist Road, which is currently being delayed by Monument revising grading plans, by the developer across from King Soopers not yet accomplishing the required grading, and by Mountain View Electric Cooperative refusing to moving electric lines until the grading is completed. He stated that the County has suffered some job cuts due to its current budget demise. El Paso County has the lowest tax rate in Colorado. Sales taxes are suffering. Public safety expenditures have increased at the expense of other county functions. He indicated that the top four road projects for the Pikes Peak area include the east gate of Fort Carson, the west gate of Peterson Air Force Base, six-laning I-25 northward, and the US 24 ?– I-25 Interchange.
?• The Academy Water and Sanitation District (AWSD) President, Richard Dupont, provided an update of the offer by Donala Water and Sanitation District to consolidate operations. The offer is still under study, but will likely be in the form of an Inter-Governmental Agreement (IGA) due to Academy?’s current outstanding bond. The main driver is the new effluent standards for ammonia, which the current lagoon system cannot meet. An alternative to meet this standard is also being studied. If the AWSD board does decide to pursue an IGA with Donala, the AWSD voters will have to approve it. Additional information will be forthcoming.
The PVSC annual election was conducted at the conclusion of the presentations with Michelle Waggener elected as President, Kurt/Rita Hufford as Vice President, Walter Reiss as Treasurer, Jim Weilbrenner as Secretary, and Sam Hartman as Director At Large.
The meeting concluded with a chili lunch at 12:00PM.
