Neighborhood Residents Instrumental in Nabbing Burglars
08/02/2008 - Good Weekend University City Residents,
We experienced an active week in the University City Division with crime and arrests. We saw an increase in property crime mainly with Burglaries and Larceny from Autos throughout the whole division especially in areas where we have not seen problems before. In the Back Creek and David Cox corridors of the division we made 5 arrests of subjects breaking into homes. Due to the quick action and attentiveness of neighbors in these neighborhoods Officers were able to take these suspects in custody without incident. In both cases the neighbors saw something that did not fit in their neighborhoods and homes then called the police giving very detailed descriptions of the suspects and their vehicles.
We really appreciate their efforts and applaud their dedication to their communities.
With the increase in property crime we ask that you be vigilant in your neighborhoods about suspicious people and activities. Please do not dismiss anything that concerns you. Please call 911 immediately when you see any behavior that is disturbing.
Please continue to close your garage doors when you are in your home or in the backyard and lock the cars in the garage. If your car is outside of the garage please take all of your valuables out including your garage door opener so that criminals will not have access to your home.
If you have an alarm system, please use it EVERY time you leave the residence no matter how quickly you are returning.
Finally, when you are going in places in University City and other parts of the city especially shopping areas, parks and hotels please do not leave ANY valuables visible inside your vehicles.
Please contact us at (704) 432-3900 if you have any problems or concerns.
Thanks,
