HiBBSmile

I didn't quite understand that event. Was happy for him and his family. But no::: I didn't quite get it. Not to say I thought there was any fraudulent activity, but then too I sort of understood the mood and mindset. Like you put it as president, he hadn't really done anything. I think the world over all, at the time was so anti-American thanks the world view of Bush, that you or I could have gotten one. But seriously, there did seem to be some global sigh at his winning and to be fair, he did impart a totally different message according to most feelings around the world. It wasn't unlike the one Bush wanted for all too, "A kinder, gentler nation". Why that was put forth didn't seem to be any less relevant than Obama's message. But still I failed to see a Nobel Prize. The same for Al Gore. I didn't see how his deliverance of a scientific field's claim deserved one. As we shouldn't shoot the messenger, we shouldn't give a million dollars either. Perhaps he donated it I don't know, and I bet he didn't need it, but the recognition as it were would have been more than enough for me anyway. Look at what's his name? He cured Polio and didn't take a penny for his work:::he just gave it to the world.

But all in all, though I don't see a Nobel Prize for his view. it was an inspiring message BB, and it certainly made a global impression. Time will tell.

All Presidents take office and begin serving on January 20th. The (Norwegian) Nobel Committee Prize website relates that the committee must receive nominations for the prize postmarked no later than February 1st of each year.

So...they are trying to tell the world that this loser strengthened Intl diplomacy and cooperation in 12 days time? Simply amazing! And he never even left the country in those first 12 days either.

You certainly know the Committee didn't vote immediately.   They had the better part of year to decide.   They could also take into consideration what he'd said and done before inaugeration and I'm sure they did.

Who did you think deserved it more?

who deserves it more?  I'd say Ronald Reagan for one.

"Ronald Reagan brought down the Iron Curtain, freed millions from tyranny, ended the Cold War, defeated the Soviet Union, ELIMINATED tens of thousands of nuclear weapons, and he didn't even get an honorable mention from the Nobel Committee. Obama makes (by my count) 7 great speeches and he gets a Nobel Peace Prize. Go figure.

The Nobel Prize Committee has done something extraordinary. It has awarded the world’s most prestigious prize for preventing and savings lives, for avoiding or ending conflict, for making the world a better and safer place, to a man who has...made some terrific speeches. It is the ultimate triumph of style over substance, of perception over reality.

In a world where there are real nuclear weapons and real enemies, the notion that the perception of peace matters more than its reality is not just absurd, it's dangerous."
