Lents Towncenter revitalization

Posted in: Powellhurst-Gilbert
I'm not in favor of the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood being tied in with this. I think the boundary should by re-drawn to exclude us. Many of us are in the Johnson Creek 100 yearflood plain and have restrictions on our property such as not being able to sub-divide our lots, and the cut and fill restriction. Our properties have basically be devalued though our taxes have not been lowered. Now the plan for Lents, much of which is also in the 100 year flood plain, is going to get millions of dollars spent on it while individual home owners have lost the right to do certain things to our property. And they have told us point blank, that once Lents is revitalized our taxes will go up to pay for it ! Lets make them re-think the boundary of this project and leave us out !. it's not fair !

You will pay no more taxes

The way the urgan renewal taxes work is that the tax base is frozen. You will pay the same taxes you would have paid, but the portion over the frozen tax base will go to pay for urban renewal. It is simply a redirecting of funds from your neighborhood back into your neighborhood rather than into the City's general fund. Call David Nemo at Portland Development Commission for more information.
