What is going on with the application for a liquor and gaming(?)license?

By Anon
give him a break...

As a small business owner I believe this fella should be able to do whatever he wants. As a neighbor I worry about the school kids across the street seeing the cig ads more than the booze neon lights. Will the sale of beer and wine change the feel of the Tabor area? I doubt it. Does anyone know what he plans to do?

Liq. App. Council Hearing 8/18

The City Council will hold a hearing on the liquor license application by the Drive Thru Wake Up Deli on Wed., Aug. 18, at 9:30 a.m., at City Hall, downtown. The City Bureau of Licensing is likely to recommend against approval.

The application is formally opposed by the MTNA, the South Tabor Neigh. Asso., Atkinson Elem. PTA and administration, the Franklin HS administration, the Diary Queen, and a large number of neighborhood residents. Concerns center on the Deli's proximity to Atkinson, the day care at Atkinson, Clinton Park, Franklin HS and the Dairy Queen, and evidence of the owner's repeated sales of cigarettes to minors (2 police stings, 2 Franklin HS stings)in the short time he has been open. For more information call Paul Leistner, MTNA, 228-7231 (day); 232-3888 (eve).
