SEUL Land Use and Transportation Committee will be launching a pedestrian and bicycle safety campaign within the coming year. The committee is spending the fall researching the issues with its coalition neighborhoods and other organizations. The committee will examine several aspects of pedestrian and bicycle safety issues including traffic law enforcement, funding for street improvements, effectiveness of traffic calming methods, public agency responsiveness, and public eduction.
The committee plans to kick-off the campaign after the holiday season. The campaign may consist of a variety of activities aimed at promoting policies, solutions, ideas or activities that enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety. Activities may include meeting with elected officials, agency heads and neighborhood and business leaders, holding workshops or a public rally. Ultimately, the committee hopes to leverage existing resources and energy from residents to make a difference. We are looking for people to help us give shape to our campaign.
If you are interested in volunteering, please call Phillip Wong at 232-0010 ext 14. Or please join us at 7pm Monday September 18, 2000 at our offices for the committee's regular meeting.
