EMERGENCY MEETING TBA: PPS SELLING 60 ACRES OF LAND

PROPOSED SALE/LEASE OF LAND IN OUR NEIGHBORHOODS
Stay tuned for information about when and where the emergency meeting will be held regardung the possible selling of land in our area. It is so important that residents speak out on this issue. The School board will only take public input until August 15th so it is imperative to take action now.

By resolution No. 2155, the Portland Public School Board has created a Real Estate Trust to realize the ''greatest long term return reasonably possible from the disposition of surplus real properties''. This directly affects not only the residents of the Concordia Neighborhood but many other neighborhoods in the city. 60 acres of parks and athletic fields are in jeopardy. According to the Portland Public Schools Long Range Facilities Plan, Meek, Faubian, and Madison are just a few of many sites with surplus land to sell or lease. Whitaker Lakeside, and the King Community Center are just a few of the sites targeted as ''Priorities for Revenue Generation''. While it is true that our schools are in dire need of funding, is selling off school greenspace the solution to the crisis?

Stay tuned for more information about the meeting and be sure to make your voices heard.
