City of Dallas Mail Theft Alert!

This is a report regarding theft of mail and what thieves do.

Our officers arrested a
suspect yesterday who was stealing mail out of
residential mail boxes in the 620 sector. The
important thing to know is that the thief was stealing
the mail that the homeowners were placing in their box
to be mailed, i.e. utility bills, mortgage company
payments, etc. The suspect had about 20 checks in his
possession when he was arrested. He would remove the
checks from the envelopes and then throw the rest of
the mail in the storm drains. He would then later
"wash" the checks which means all the handwritten ink
would be removed from the checks and then they can be
written out to anyone for any amount.

This is really big business.

So please, notify all the people
you can about this.
