It is time again for the yearly CWEB elections. The Board is a committee of crime watch chairpersons from throughout the city who meet monthly to discuss ways to foster and improve crime watch and to act as a liaison between members of the community and the Dallas Police Department. Elections for the North Central CWEB representative will be held on Monday, March 25th at 7PM at the Fretz Recreation Center. Any chairperson can nominate themselves or some other chairperson for this position and nominations will be accepted from March 1 through March 15th. Please call Robin Eisenberg at (214) 670-6497 during this time with your nomination. If the area crime watch chairperson is unable to attend the elections, he or she can send a representative in their place to cast the vote. Each active crime watch will be entitled to one vote. Please put this important date on your calendar. Fretz Recreation Center is located at 6950 Beltline.
Last year, 41% of all offenses that occurred in the City of Dallas were auto related. The offenses were either Auto Theft (the vehicle is stolen) or Burglary of a Motor Vehicle. In the North Central Division, there was a 23% increase in auto theft and an 8% increase in BMV’s from the previous year. To help combat these offenses, the Dallas Police Department in conjunction with the Texas Auto Theft Prevention Authority have teamed up to launch the Lock, Take and Hide Campaign. This campaign is designed to help reduce the opportunities of theft by reminding citizens to Lock their vehicles, Take their keys and Hide their belongings. Where this campaign has already been initiated, the response from patrons and businesses has been positive. To find out more information regarding how to get the Lock, Take and Hide Public Awareness signs in your neighborhood or business community, contact North Central Community Relations Officer Herrera at (214) 671-0514. Help us take a proactive approach to vehicle related thefts.
If you look on the back of your driver’s license, you will see a phone number just above the bar code: (800) 525-5555. This is the DPS emergency assistance number. If you have car problems either on the highway or while in any town, call this number and help will be sent to you. If you are in a town, DPS will contact the local law enforcement agency to respond to your location. If you are on the highway, a DPS Trooper will respond. If a wrecker is needed for your vehicle one will be ordered for you. Also, if you already have a wrecker ordered or just need to have someone sit with you while other help arrives, law enforcement will be happy to do this. This is a free service so take advantage.
