Put homeless tents on Main St.

Either put the homeless tents at Slater Mill or relocate the homeless to Main Street where there are plenty of empty buildings. This idea has worked in other United States cities. For instance, in Detroit that city used a mixed zoning code to have artists and homeless people live together for a further tax break for the building owners. With the homeless people sharing lofts, this idea would include a team of social workers and psychologists that could help the homeless get a psychological help or an education in the new School Department building. Also, could the city investigate the possibility of the state renting a dowtown building for 110 students extra from the Rhode Island Boys Training School? Why not arrange a GED program or University of Rhode Island extension classes in the new Teaching and Learning Center on Main Street? The benefits for the artists? The sight of people of Main Street might encourage more people to enter downtown artist facilities. Inexpesive labor would also help the artists accomplish their art.
