A Sunday walk with bank deposit ends in mugging in Pawtucket

PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon, and the Citizens Bank branch on Smithfield Avenue was only a mile and a half away. So, the police say, an employee from the Cumberland Farms store down the road in Providence decided to walk to the bank with the deposit.

The woman left Providence and walked into Pawtucket -- where she was mugged and the $8,000 deposit was stolen, Pawtucket Police Maj. Arthur Martins said.

The woman told police that she was walking by a business when the man suddenly walked out and struck her, Martins said. The robber grabbed the deposit and ran.

A passerby saw the attack and spoke with police, however, there isn't a specific description of the robber.
