One of the most popular educational program is our Computer Class. Sponsored by PerSCHOLAS, O.A.T.S, and R.A.I.N., Inc. this program is designed specifically to fit the needs of seniors.
O.A.T.S. (Older Adult Technical Services) provides the teachers. O.A.T.S. is a non-profit organization that has partnered with R.A.I.N., Inc. to provide teachers for the computer classes. The refurbished computers are provided by PerSCHOLAS, also a non-profit organization that recycles used computers, teaches computer science, and provides free computers to everyone who completes the class. Classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Come on over & sign up (718-882-8513) or contact Dan Simmons at natsim8@hotmail.com.
The New York City Department for the Aging's Health Promotion Unit has supplied a teacher, Ms. Madeline Pincus, to teach senior volunteers how to lead exercise classes. The exercise program is called STAYWELL Exercise Program. Six of our senior members took the training over a period of two months and have begun to lead exercise classes every day.
We have had up to 30-40 seniors at the classes which are held in our biggest room--Adler Hall. Classes are held on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:00AM 10:30 AM.
