R.A.I.N. Eastchester Senior Center

FROM THE SENIOR ADVISORY COUNCIL

    INTRUDUCING OUR NEW ADVISORY COUNCIL!

    Last February, members of R.A.I.N. Eastchester Senior Center elected or re-elected from its membership, a new Senior Advisory Council. Elections are scheduled to take place every two years.  Elections were to take place in 2010 but were delayed while a re-organization took place that required, among other things, the use of the original Costitution and Bylaws in the election procedures.  This Constitution and its Bylaws were first used in 1994 and were instituted by the New York CityDepartment for the Aging (DFTA).  

Based on this original Constitution, the election process was begun in February, 2011 and the new council was elected. 18 members from the center were elected. Dan Simmons, a former Center Director and past president of the Council (from 2004 - 2008), was elected President. Robert Potter was elected first Vice President and Theo McKnight as second Vice President.  Leslie Olaywayoli became the Recording Secretary, Rosalyn B. Clair, Treasurer and Mary Johnson, Corresponding Secretary.  This group makes up the Executive Committee.

    Filling out the Council as Members-at-Large are Margaret Lannie, Elena Upha and Zinia Sasportas, Bertha Moore and Lillie Smith. Sergeants-at-Arms are Ted Syder and Millagros Aguilla.  Also on the Council are staff reps Deborah Keyes and Juanita Callins.  Sarah Turner is an honorary member.

NOTE:  Due to an illness in the family, Dan Simmons stepped down from the presidency of the Council and First-Vice President Bob Potter became President.  He and the Council are preparing for elections and re-elections to the Council.  Elections will take place in December 2012 and the new board will have their first meeting in January 2013.
