Mosquitoes in our neighborhood are more than just a nuisance. They pose a real health risk. Mosquitoes can carry serious diseases, such as encephalitis, yellow fever, dengue, and malaria.
The best method of controlling mosquitoes is to eliminate their breeding grounds.
Adult mosquitoes lay their eggs in standing water, where they hatch in a day or two.
Frequently this standing water is found in old tires, tin cans, or any other water-holding containers. Eliminating these items from your yard will reduce opportunities for mosquitoes to multiply.
Othher areas of standing water, such as ditches or low-lying areas, are also excellent breeding grounds.
The Marion County Health Department is offering to help us control mosquitoes in our neighborhood by inpsecting and treating areas where mosquitoes are breeding.
If you know of an area on your property, or anywhere in our neighborhood where standing water can be found, please call Mosquiot Control and ask them to come out and inspect. Be prepared to provide them with the exact location that you are concerned about.
This service is free, and your efforts will help our neighborhood control our mosquito population.
Please call Mosquito Control at 359-9726 to report possible breeding areas.
