Public Libraries in Hernando County to close due to COVID-19 preventive measures

(Brooksville, FL) Hernando County is closely monitoring the rapidly evolving COVID-19 developments. We know that in times of crisis, libraries play invaluable roles in supporting their communities both in person and virtually. Libraries are by design unable to practice social distancing to the degree recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other health authorities. Keeping libraries open at this time has the potential to harm communities more than help. We stress the importance and need to come together in this crisis and commit to ensuring our library, which provides so many important services to our community, do not serve as vectors for a fast-paced pandemic.

After carefully considering a multitude of factors and the rapidly changing situation in the surrounding areas, the Hernando County Public Library System has made the difficult decision to not open for public access effective Wednesday, March 18, 2020 until further notice.

For your convenience, please use our eResources that are highlighted on our webpage at https://hernandocountylibrary.us/.

You may also continue to reserve items by calling your local branch or online through our website. Items may be picked up, after you are notified, at the branch the hold was requested to be picked up at. Staff will meet you at the front entrance to provide you with your hold(s).

Please continue to drop off items through the afterhours/drive up book drops. Returns will not be accepted at the front entrance. Staff will be readily available by phone Monday-Friday from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm for any questions you may have. Fines have been suspended through May 1st.
