We checked on the possibility of a traffic light at this intersection since getting out of our community in the morning is getting more and more difficult. We were told that the Town could look at it, but the chances of getting anything installed there within two years was slim. We pointed out that the new school would soon be opening and traffic would increase through our residential area.
That would help our cause, although it probably still wouldn't be enough to cause the Town to invest $200,000+ to put a traffic signal in. (In order to get a light, one of
the criteria is something like 200 cars an hour, every hour, for an eight hour period -- not just an average.) They also look at accident history, but the fact that we have not had any doesn?’t necessarily eliminate the possibility of
getting a signal. We were told that when the subdivision goes in at the NE corner of Ray & Gilbert Roads, that the intersection there would be cleaned up and widened and that should then help us because traffic would be better timed at both Gilbert & Cooper for traffic on Ray. Bottom line is that until the situation gets worse, not much can done.
