Below are selected quotes from an article "Tassin Running for Futrell's Seat" By MIKE DUNNE in the Morning Advocate. In the article the description of District 66 does not include our area of at least 3 subdivisions. Now I realize our problem, Mrs Tassin does not know she represents the people in the Red Oaks Area? To quote Mrs. Tassin "I will work with the (state) Department of Economic Development and my contacts within the district to lure the right kind of companies by using innovative approaches that make Baton Rouge an attractive job partner," I now realize that the misinformation and scheming during our rezone battle may be classified as "using innovative approaches ". And the "lure the right kind of companies" also include store owners with some 80 arrest on their property, mostly drug related. Perhaps that is why she change her campaign promises to our association, and obstructed all sorts of obstacles hindering our attempt to prevent the rezoning of the above. If the applicant Mrs. Tassin tried to "lure the right kind of companies" she has very poor judgement.
Another "innovative approach" may be not to tell me, Kenneth Carpenter President of our Association, she advised the applicants to defer the hearing knowing that we had prepared our tax-paying property owners to attend. We were trying to prevent the devaluation of our property and give up their deed restrictions, the only tool to prevent such a thing from happening. Very innovative, not to tell me she had advised the applicants to defer and suggesting to me that, "the people of Red Oak Subdivision must realize we had to compromise." On the same day she asked me what I thought of a compromise. I told he that our property/tax-paying members where prepared for the meeting and had arranged transportation and did not want a compromiser or deferral.
I had previously mention to Mrs. Tassin that I and others might use our allotted time to disclose to the TV audience what we had endured for months because of her apparent failure to cooperate with her constituents. It is amazing to me that just before our Association was approaching the podium at the Public Hearing and to address the TV audience the electricty failed and there was no TV coverage.
In another "innovative approach" Mrs Tassin uses the following as a qualification for running for Futrell's seat, "In addition to her council duties, she serves as the chairman of the East Baton Rouge Parish Planning Commission."
