As many of you have probably noticed our streets have recently been ''soiled'' with some rather noxious looking and smelling spills from the city garbage trucks. After the first occurance I was in contact with the city and they quickly power washed many of the worst areas. Unfortunately, the problem has continued. After worse spills this week an on site inspection was performed on Friday with an ''environmental waste management'' supervisor. They have pulled the truck from service, agreed that it will never be used on our route again (will also perform more extensive diaganostic servicing of the truck) and have begun more intense clean up efforts. They will be power washing with additional solvent and using a power vaccum machine to remove the residue. Depending on the results, additional options may include sealing affected areas with a ''sealer coat''. Unfortunately, on Friday afternoon (April 30) when they began clean up work on Redriver Sky the vacuum machine broke down. They have assured me that they will be back at it on Monday. The worst areas that I have observed are Redland Trail, Redriver Sky and Redriver Song, but all areas seem to have some spillage. I will work with the city crews to review every street and effect clean up as required. If you have any streets that you are concerned about due to this matter, please e-mail me at graff-ca@swbell.net
