The Vote is No

I have asked numerous times what is the budget for the monument signs, or what do we have to work with. I am curious on who was the one to come up with the amount it would cost, and who would do the work. I haven?’t heard anything about it so far, which to me smells fishy.

Honestly, if I can't get a clear answer on this, there is a major problem. I will be the biggest A hole in the community and protest it.

By the way, this afternoon I contacted some local neighbors on this issue. All of them said NO, the money could be used for more appropriate issues.

Apparently the committee voted yes to submit the application for the monument signs. I wasn?’t there, nor invited, either were all of my neighbors. We had our own vote today, and we all voted No on proposition 001. Since you don?’t invite us, we don?’t invite you, right? Leaving a flyer on the doorstep is not a legitimate way of communication.

So where does this leave us?

Waste of money, period.
Re: Speed Humps

The goal we need to focus on is excessive speeding, not 2 mph over the limit. Speed humps are extremely annoying and the thought of having to drive over them every day just makes me shudder. I personally do not see too much excessive speeding. Every once in a while someone tears down Shawnee, but we're not on the main drag.

I'm sure there are a lot of people who dislike speed humps. The problem is that all cars are different. I don't think you can design a speed hump that will allow every car to go no faster than 25 mph without making some people have to slow down to 15, but I'm no expert. If a car has tight suspension, like in a sports car, then the car can go quite fast over speed humps. Most likely, those that excessively speed have souped up vehicles. Meanwhile, someone with an older sedan will have to slow down for each speed hump. I see it all the time where I work where there are speed humps.

I don't think speed humps are an answer and I don't know what they will do for property valuation; I know I really don't want to live or buy in a neighborhood with speed humps -- it just looks cheap, degrades from the look of the neighborhood, and are extremely annoying to drive over every day.

I believe the best solution to speeding is still enforcement, no matter how much we wish it to be untrue.

Amberwood North meetings

JV
Upon reading your concerns about the naming and signs for our neighborhood, I find that you are not fully informed.
I have been to every meeting and a part of all the decisions regarding what goes on in the neighborhood. I doin't know if you have ever been to a meeting. If you have, I hope that you will continue to come. If you have not then I really want to encourage to come and be apart of the decusion in person rather than by e-mail. By attending you are able to reach a lot more neighbors than you can by e-mail.
To get to some of your concerns....
Starting in Nov of last year we had our very first meeting. We have address several concerns that the neighborhood has brought up as you are aware of. Though we may have had 7 such concerns that were more intense than others, the list of 7 are not always solved in the order in wich they were listed. We have had meetings with the city of Chandler Police Department, Waste Mangement & Neighborhood commities of Chandler. We have worked on such things as....
Trash Collection and the changes that are taking place.
Abandoned shopping carts
Barking Dogs
Speed issues
Beat meetings-which has to do with crime, noise, and others
Articles on how to improve your home.ie water heaters, painting, weeding and how the city has a program to help with tools needed for yard work.
As for the sighs. To even qualify for a grant we had to show we had an organized neighborhood with a certin number of hours and meetings. It's not just send in a request and boom we get money. There had been a lot of time and paper work and requirements that had to be met.
We still have a lot of work to do to get other issues worked out and that will continue to be on going, ie crime, speeders, alley ways, clean ups, park issues, ect. We have only been at this 1 year. It may take another 5 years before other areas are even close if ever completed.
So please doin't discourage but please encourage and get invole and attend the meetings.
Thank-you

Speed humps

Hi Greg,

I dont like going over speed humps either, but I know they are there for a good reason, thus,I am happy to slow down to 10 mph. I have been a parent of a young child (years past)...and I shuddered everytime my child went outside to ride his bike....

People need common sense (which I find sorely lacking in our neighborhood). In my younger days, I had a sports car. I never had a problem using a lower gear to slow down for bumps in the roadway...Just my opinion.

Speed humps/bumps DO solve the problem - slow down - we dont need our police force spending their time watching for speeders in our neighborhoods, their time is better spent elsewhere.

I think Speed humps are an attractive sight for parents with young children, it tells prospective buyers we care about families..

Speed humps would make our neighborhood less likely for someone to make a ''detour'' through our neighborhood to avoid a red light or traffic jam.

Last year I saw a terrible accident at the corner of Evergreen St.& Cheyenne. Had speed humps/bumps been there, the young teen would not have been injured.

And to the discussion regarding going to meetings: not all of us can attend these meetings. Some of us go to bed early, get up for work at 3 AM, yada yada.

Thank you for listening/reading
