Response to Pamela

Dear Pamela,
Thanks for writing. The building on Broadway that I enjoy the most is the red brick building at the intersection of Central Avenue and Broadway, built around 1880. It would make a great artists facility. However, the building is fully occupied. You are correct in saying their are many interesting potential artist spaces near Dunkin Donuts. By the way, could you mail me some advice as to how to help develop a community garden near Newport Avenue to help the Pawtucket Farmers market?

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Jim
Awesome thread!

James, that building that you reference is amazing.

Pam & Luke are right about community involvement. Personally I live on Daniels and have been involved more in the past.. I commute out of town for my job so I'm not as available for meetings etc as I wish I could be but I try to stay in touch with my neighbors and clean up where I can.

Dunkin Donuts was mentioned in this thread.. one of the big things about this area that bothers me is the HUGE amount of D&D trash that accumulates everywhere and how D&D takes NO responsibility for the area and what the un-recyclable trash that they generate does to it... I wish there was some way to call them on it, make them accountable somehow?

you mention artists coming here..I could see that happening eventually.. if downtown starts booming (and there is a sign that it will what with Residential Properties getting involved) then there might be a ripple effect here... I go to the Grant at least 4 times a week and I'm at Machines with Magnets a bunch and I can tell you that alot of my fellow artists ARE thinking about moving from the west side of Providence to Pawtucket.. we need to entice them here.

Pam mentions the Farmers Market.. that area of Broadway would be a good start.. there are some awesome storefronts that would make great gallery spaces right across from the old Mirror Image building..

sorry for the long winded response.. as a resident of the Broadway area of Pleasant View its really cool to see others thinking the same things I am.. Broadway has a TON of potential.

also, There's a Broadway thread on Urban Planet here: http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/Broadway-Pawtucket-t25135.html

PS. Luke, do you still live in the area? Off topic, I've gone to your shop many a time since 1989 or so.. I used to work at In Your Ear Providence.. I'm sad that i can't pop in to Luke's on a regular basis anymore...what are you going to do with it?
