What do you think about the layoffs? With the decimation of long time reporters and photographers at the Times and the other affliliated papers, maybe there will be an opportunity for you to write a byline for the Times. Perhaps it will only be national wire service reports, but do you think it is a plus or minus for Pawtucket and the Valley?

Bummer
Sounds like we will have to write the news to share here on the NAP site or use cans tied together for community communications. Sounds like we have been sold down the river. By Bummed Out |

Another Pawtucket source needed
The rumor of a Times building sale occurred back in the early 1990's; the JRC people were to merge the Times and the Call and move the newspapers into Cumberland, Rhode Island or Seekonk, Mass. This would be unfortunate for the Blackstone Valley in terms of news coverage. However, Pawtucket residents still like their Times. Perhaps an investor or two could start up a new publication in Pawtucket. The Times has failed miserably in local coverage in the past few years. Many items of news have been ignored: veterans news, city hall news, neighborhood news, and press releases from churches and civic organizations. Church advertising now has to be paid. The Valley Breeze in Cumberland and Lincoln seemed to work out a very good newspaper. |
