Matt's Tidbits

Nov 14, 2002

So where does a guy go for a plasma on the rocks with a twist? At its August 16, 2002, meeting, the regents allowed the U of A to buy the blood bank at 1014 E. 6th St. for $580,000...Even though this situation should have been reported to the RHNA according to the MOU, it never was. The U of A owns most of the block bounded by Park, Fremont, 6th and 7th. But it doesn?’t look like it owns over 60% of the frontage addressed on Park Ave... No major changed are expected this year. Last year there was the additional fireworks to introduce the players. You had to watch the ESPN program about the football team to find out that someone from the athletic department suggested the fireworks and that Coach Mackovic thought that it was ?“neat.?” And the football department wonders why it can?’t sell season tickets to the neighbors...Speaking of football, I see that the City of Tucson needs to put advertising on shuttle buses in order to pay for the football shuttle buses in order to pay for the football shuttles after the U of A wouldn?’t pony up any money for the shuttles this year. This is typical of the U of A?’s dumping of its problems onto the neighborhood...The Rock bar is still with us at 9th and Park. I guess TUSD hasn?’t bought the property as rumored. Interestingly, there are no fences around the adjoining TUSD parking lot as also rumored. Instead there are small 6 inch by 9 inch signs with 60 words mostly in fine print saying TUSD takes no responsibility for any property damage to vehicles. As these signs are hard to read in the day time and impossible to read at night, I?’m not quite sure what?’s the purpose. The U of A did take down its signs and pulled up its parking bumpers in the lot. And it looks like the charged parking for this location will not be free parking...The monitoring well at the 8th and Mountain parking lot is now testing 4.5 parts per billion in PCE. Thre readings for this well have increased at a slow but steady rate since it was put in a few years ago...Don Davis had a car accident in Wyoming. Don, who is the chair of the Citizen?’s Advisory Board for the Broadway-Euclid clean up project and is the alternate for the Campus Community Relations Committee, has been missed and the neighborhood hopes for his speedy recovery.
