Mail Room

Posted in: Prospect New Town
In the preparation of the Mail Room yesterday, couple of issues were raised.

Firstly, for security purposes, the Postal Service requests the Mail Room door be locked at around 10pm. When I mentioned this to some people, they had the impression that it would be locked 24/7 and we would all be issued keys. To get a key cut for each household, would cost mucho $'s. Is it really necessary to have the door locked during the day? What do you think? And is there anyone who would need access after 10pm?

Secondly, the mail carrier raised the issue of parking availability outside the Mail Room. Yesterday am, the only space available was outside GMAC in S Coffman. When another business is opened in the cafe, this will no doubt become even more of a problem. For now, can we request that people not park there between 9.00-12.00pm.
What are the keys for then?

I'm a little confused... In your email you said ''I will try to get the new keys out to all of you by then.''... Are these keys to the mail boxes?

If so, if the mail boxes are locked why wouldn't it be ok to leave the room open. It would be no different than what we have today (with the boxes outside) would it?

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, I did mean the mail boxes.
The current boxes are out in the open, whereas the mail room is kind of out of the way and, especially now that the cafe is closed, with not much foot traffic.
Talking to people, the consensus seems to be that they want it locked. To avoid graffiti etc. Someone suggested a 4-digit keypad, rather than yet another key.

Hold the phone! The vote has since swung completely the other way and most now want open access. The door will remain unlocked.
