I forgot to mention he also said to ask them for their company ID (the company they are selling for) & permit.  If someone is legit, they will show it to you.  Otherwise, if someone is not legit, they will figure the neighborhood (at least you) are smart enough, and will move to an easier target.  Criminals go to targets of opportunity, so don't give them an opportunity to find out information or an opportunity to break into your house.

sounds like the scam my mom told me about that was on the news...

The robbers come to your house pretending to be selling burglar alarms. They ask pertinent questions about your house, and ………then come back and rob you. The news said Burleson…….but it could be used anywhere.  Looks like its here now.

That's exactly correct.  There are some that are legit.  But, these days you can't trust it. Pinnacle security (wireless) has a really pushy salesman that some Lakes of River Trails residents have complained of him forcing his way in the door.  In my opinion, don't answer the door period. But, let them know your home.  Tell them to go away, your not interested otherwise, you'll call the cops.

Even if they are legit, there are always going to be crooks that will use the same tactic to blend in.  Don't fall for it.

Its a double edge sword.  If we don't answer then they think we are not home and then they can bust down our door but if we answer, we put ourself in danger.  A home during Christmas break was broke into because after the creep knocked and no one answered, he kicked in the door to find 2 kids home alone watching tv who were told not to answer the door.  I think we should at least yell at them NO SOLICITING GO AWAY so they don;t kick in the door.
