The Roosevelt High School String Orchestra peforms in several concerts during the school year. Many students also participate in the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association Solo and Ensemble Festival. The Orchestra also participates in MSBOA Orchestra Festival each year as well.
Elements of the class involve the appreciation for music as an aesthetic art form while also stressing the fundamentals of successful instrumental performance consisting of tone, intonation, rhythm, technique and musical interpretation. Basic theory and formal analysis of music are also elements of the curriculum. Instrumentation is limited to violin, viola, cello and string bass. The Roosevelt High School String Orchestra is one of the few remaining public school string music programs in Michigan.
Successful completion of instrumental courses in middle school. Acceptance will be granted by audition and or assignment by the director.

The String Orchestra continues to impress listneners at MSBOA Festivals. In this, their second year at Festival, the Orchestra had a very musical performance and tackled some very difficult sightreading music as well.

RHS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
We are proud to announce the arrival of a new ensemble this year at RHS - the Symphony Orchestra. This group, comprised of instruments from the wind, string and percussion family, is an extension of the RHS String Orchestra program. This group performed at the Spring Concert this year and was met with enthusiastic applause and positive feedback! Hopefully, this ensemble tradition will be continued in the years to come. :)
